Denise Tims

Denise is a trained Primary School Teacher with over 20 years experience in community work. This work has involved Youthwork, Kohanga Reo, Financial Capability, CYFS (Orange Tamariki) Caregiving, running an Open Home, Parenting courses.  For the past 4 years, she has been studying theology through an indigenous lens as a part-time student at Laidlaw Bible College.  Denise has spoken at churches, Bible Colleges and with community groups. Denise currently stands as a Board Trustee of the Carey Baptist College.

Denise can teach topics including…

Mission and Family:  Interweaving family life and mission. Having a family does not exclude you from living a life of mission.
Theology through an indigenous lens.  In NZ we are taught scripture through predominantly a western lens. Denise being of Maori descent, offers another insight into God from an indigenous perspective. Are we conscious of our own lens and how it influences our Theology, Christian living and Community Engagement.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Mission.  How do we outwork and live the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi  through Mission and Community.   She is able to offer her learnings and insights with churches and mission organisations regarding, how they may find practical ways of honouring the Treaty in their own context. Denise is able to share how UNOH and the community groups she is involved in outwork the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
