Justice, Mission and Neighbourhood.

There is a quiet, proactive movement emerging in New Zealand, where Jesus lovers are intentionally relocating into poor neighbourhoods. They are joining with neighbours to re-imagine their neighbourhoods is transformed from poverty to a place that reflects where ‘Heaven meets Earth’.

UNOH (Urban Neighbours of Hope www.unoh.co.nz) is offering a workshop that looks closely at poverty and injustice in New Zealand, giving participants key practical tools and principles. The workshop explores how to: engage with justice and transformation at a local neighbourhood level, build structures where locals grow, create pathways for neighbourhood leadership, and explore the value of employment and social enterprises. It examines the working together of evangelism, discipleship and social transformation, unpacks neoliberalism, and explores Jesus’ heart for the poor.

This workshop is not for the faint-hearted. It is for people willing to stand with the poor and join them in the struggle. They must be prepared to count the personal cost, think long‑term, use Christian Community‑led Development models, and follow Jesus into the hard places.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Mission:
working cross-culturally.

How do we outwork and live the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi through Mission and Community? Dave (Pakeha) and Denise (Ngati Porou, Ngati Raukawa, Nga Puhi) will share their understanding of working cross-culturally, offering their learnings and insights with churches and mission organisations regarding, how they may find practical ways of honouring the Treaty in their own contexts. This ½ day course will include a short history of NZ, how the Treaty honours the gospel message and shapes who we are as NZd’ers.

It will also include a brief introduction into Pakeha Culture, outlining the importance of knowing who you are before working cross-culturally. Dave and Denise will share how, with their family, with UNOH and the community groups they have been involved in, outwork the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Missio Dei.

Missio Dei is an opportunity to take time out of our busy schedules to reflect on the deeper callings of God in our lives, and to explore what kind of mission He has uniquely shaped us for. It focuses on three main questions:1. Where have I been and how has God shaped me?
2. Where am I going?
3. Who can I join with (what mentors and/or communities do I need)?Missio Dei is a time of reflection, evaluation, honesty, and hope. It sees where you have come from, where you are now, and where you are likely being directed to, by God. It reflects on your life story. As it does that, you stay in control of how much of that story you talk about or don’t talk about. As the two days progress, Missio Dei gently guides your thoughts and engages with your dreams.
